Mariska Hargitay recently revealed that portraying Detective Olivia Benson on “Law & Order: Special Victim’s Unit” makes her feel “fulfilled,” while she was attending the 20th anniversary celebration of the show during the Tribeca TV Festival in New York City on Sept. 20.

The 54-year-old actress told Entertainment Television about the connections and similarities between herself and her character Benson.

“I think we’re each other’s teachers,” she said. “She’s taught me a lot.”

According to ET, Hargitay said she enjoys playing the lead character on the NBC broadcasting TV show, and she doesn’t have plans to retire.

“If you asked me 20 years ago, I never thought I’d be here 20 years later, and I am fulfilled and I love my co-stars and it’s an incredible collaboration with the producers and the writers, so I’m really enjoying it,” Hargitay said.

On Sept. 21, the actress wrote a post on her Instagram account, “Happy XXth! ??.” She attached a few photos of herself and her co-stars in the SVU cast.

Having been in the cast for 20 years, Hargitay thinks the job is “an incredible privilege,” but it’s also a challenge. She explained that she feels like she’s been in a “marathon for 20 years.”

“Just doing the work every day, and our days are long, so it’s been a long and beautiful [journey] to have moments to celebrate it,” Hargitay told ET.

Even after two decades, it seems like Hargitay is just taking that journey one step at a time.

“I’m thinking about this year and this season and how to make it the best and thinking a little bit about next year,” she said.
