A popular snack mix sold under multiple brands, including Target’s Good & Gather label, is being pulled from shelves nationwide over a potential Salmonella risk, federal regulators said.
The Illinois-based company said the seasoning had tested negative for Salmonella before being used in production, but the recall was issued “as a precautionary measure” due to the possibility of contamination.
The affected products were sold under the Fisher, Southern Style Nuts, Squirrel Brand, and Good & Gather labels in retail stores, online, and through QVC, the Food and Drug Administration said in their own announcement Wednesday. Items include Fisher’s Tex Mex Trail Mix, Southern Style Nuts’ Gourmet Hunter Mix and Hunter Mix, and Squirrel Brand’s Travelers Mix and Town and Country Mix, with “best by” dates ranging from January to August 2027.
Consumers are urged not to eat the products and to return them for a refund or replacement.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled snack mixes so far.
"To date, neither Pork King Good nor our suppliers have received any reports of illness or injury related to these products," Managing Partner Rick Koston said in the company's announcement. "Our own internal testing has not identified any impacted finished goods; however, we are taking this step out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our customers."
Other companies have also taken action. Ghirardelli Chocolate Co. recalled powdered beverage mixes, and federal officials issued a public health alert for certain meat and poultry products, including frozen pizzas sold at Walmart, after identifying the same dairy ingredient in those items.
Health officials warn that Salmonella infections can be serious, particularly for young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and can appear within hours to several days after exposure. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and lead to more severe conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
The company said that no other products beyond those listed are affected by the recall.
