A Wisconsin-based snack company has voluntarily pulled thousands of seasoning bottles and pork rind products from store shelves across the country after learning that a key ingredient may have been tainted with Salmonella. The recall is the latest fallout from a widening contamination crisis traced back to a single dairy supplier.

Pork King Good announced the recall on April 29, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration published notice of it on May 5. The affected products—Sour Cream & Onion flavored pork rinds and seasoning bottles—were made using a milk powder ingredient that California Dairies, Inc. had separately recalled over potential Salmonella contamination.

In total, 2,651 seasoning bottles are affected. The recalled lot numbers are 329-5 (best if used by May 30, 2027), 004-6 (best if used by June 30, 2027), and 029-6 (best if used by June 30, 2027).

"To date, neither Pork King Good nor our suppliers have received any reports of illness or injury related to these products," Managing Partner Rick Koston said in the company's announcement. "Our own internal testing has not identified any impacted finished goods; however, we are taking this step out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our customers."

The company said it has pinpointed all affected batches made with the suspect ingredient and is coordinating with retail partners to ensure those products are either destroyed or returned. Pork King Good said it has also notified the USDA and is conducting independent, third-party laboratory testing on finished goods.

"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may cause our customers and retail partners," Koston said. "The trust you place in Pork King Good means everything to us, and we are committed to making this right."

The Pork King Good recall follows a chain of recalls tied to California Dairies, Inc.'s contaminated milk powder. Earlier in the week, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company announced a recall of its powdered beverage mixes—including frappes, hot cocoas, and sweet ground powder blends—after a third-party manufacturer used the same flagged dairy ingredient in its products. Ghirardelli's recall covered products primarily sold in bulk to food service establishments, though some reached individual consumers through online retailers.
On April 30, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert targeting meat and poultry products—including frozen pizzas sold at Walmart—after federal officials determined that multiple establishments had unknowingly used the same recalled dry milk powder in their products. Walmart confirmed it had already restricted sales and pulled the affected items from stores before the federal announcement was made.

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that attacks the intestinal tract. Symptoms—including diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever—typically appear within six hours to six days of exposure and usually resolve within a week in otherwise healthy adults. The illness poses a greater risk to infants, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems, who may face more serious complications.

No confirmed illnesses have been linked to any of the Pork King Good products as of the FDA's May 5 publication date.
