Companies Fisher-Price and Kids2 have again announced recalls that affect millions of inclined baby sleepers, after 12 more deaths were reported following the first recalls of the products.

The recalls affect Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleepers and the Kids2 Rocking Sleepers.

Fisher-Price first announced its recall for the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers in April 2019, which affects about 4.7 million products. The latest recall comes after eight deaths had been reported since the initial announcement.

The deaths were reported to have occurred “after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances,” according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

At the time of the recall, over 30 deaths had been reported. Since then, about 70 more deaths had been reported, which includes at least eight that occurred after the initial recall announcement.

“Approximately 100 deaths have reportedly occurred while infants were in the products. Fisher-Price notes that in some of the reports, it has been unable to confirm the circumstances of the incidents or that the product was a Rock ‘n Play Sleeper,” CPSC said.

The product was made in China and was sold at major stores nationwide including Walmart, Target, and online at Amazon from September 2009 through April 2019, for between $40 and $149.

People should stop using the Rock ‘n Play immediately and contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher, the recall states.

Separately, Kids2 announced again its recall of 694,000 Rocking Sleepers after four more deaths were reported after its initial recall in April 2019.

“Infant fatalities have occurred in the Rocking Sleepers, after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances,” the announcement reads.

At the time of the initial recall, CPSC and Kids2 reported five deaths. Since then, 10 more deaths have been reported—six of which were reported to have occurred before the original recall, and the remaining four deaths were reported to have taken place after the initial recall. This amounts to a total of 15 infant deaths in the Kids2 Rocking Sleepers.

“Kids2 notes that in some of the reports, it has been unable to confirm the circumstances of the incidents or that the product was a Rocking Sleeper.”

The product, which was also made in China, was sold at major retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target, and Toys “R” Us and online from March 2012 through April 2019 for between $40 and $80.

People should stop using the Rocking Sleeper immediately and contact Kids2 for a refund.

In both recalls, the CPSC notes that it is “illegal to sell or distribute the recalled sleepers.”
