Recalls for Items Sold on Amazon Over Risks of Entrapment, Fire, Falls, and Poisoning

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued four major recall notices at the end of July, flagging items sold on Amazon with hazards such as child entrapment, fire, fall injuries, and chemical poisoning. The recalled items sold on Amazon range from household baby gates to electric bikes and scooters.

Child Safety at Risk: LIVACTI Retractable Gate
The LIVACTI Retractable Safety Gate was recalled after 1,400 units sold on Amazon from December 2024 to April 2025 were found to violate federal safety standards.

The CPSC warned that a child’s torso could pass between the bottom of the gate and the floor, posing a risk of entrapment or death.

Manufactured in China and imported by Qeyan and Yanyanny, the product was priced between $55 and $75. Customers are urged to stop using the gate immediately. For a refund, customers are being asked to destroy the gate, submit photo evidence, and request a full refund.

Scooter Defect Leads to Falls
Nearly 800 units of the Apollo City 2024 Electric Scooter, also sold on Amazon, were recalled after reports of stem weld cracks that could cause the scooter to break mid-ride.

The CPSC received 10 cracking complaints and four reports of falls, including one injury. Priced around $1,800, the scooters were manufactured in China and imported by Apollo Imports, Inc., based in Delaware.

Owners are advised to stop using the scooters and request a free replacement stem from Apollo. In addition to being sold on Amazon, the scooters were also sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and online, as well as on Apollo’s website.

Fire Danger from E-Bike Batteries
Another recall is for about 100 of the FENGQS F7 Pro Electric Bike, sold on Amazon between May and December 2024 for between $700 and $1,200 each.

The e-bikes’ lithium-ion batteries, also produced in China, were linked to 13 overheating incidents. Two of those caused fires resulting in $4,000 in property damages.

Customers must mark and photograph the battery label, dispose of the battery via hazardous waste channels, and submit proof to receive a full refund.

Household Product Violates Packaging Law
About 9,000 bottles of Creekwood Naturals 100 percent Pure Gum Spirits of Turpentine have been recalled. The bottles were sold from June 2023 to May 2025 for between $20 and $40 on Amazon, Etsy, and eBay, and lacked the required child-resistant packaging.

No injuries have been reported, but the product poses a serious risk of accidental poisoning. Creekwood Naturals, based in California. The company is offering free child-resistant caps to all affected consumers.

According to Amazon, the company's “Product Safety Team proactively investigates and addresses reported safety complaints and incidents to ensure customer protection from potential product-related safety risks. We closely monitor public recall alert websites and receive notifications from vendors and sellers. Upon discovering a product recall, we immediately halt affected product offerings, and promptly inform both customers and sellers involved about the recall.”
