A man who was accused of kicking a woman down a flight of stairs at a Berlin metro station was reportedly attacked while in jail.

Svetoslav Stoykov, 28, carried out the attack in October 2016 at the Hermannstrasse. In surveillance footage, woman can be seen walking down the stairs before he kicked her, sending her flying face-first to the ground. The BBC reported that she suffered a broken arm and a head injury.

He got two years and 11 months in prison for grievous bodily harm and another charge of exhibitionism.

Stoykov, who is being held at Berlin’s Heidering Prison, was a convicted criminal in Bulgaria who was suffering from brain damage caused during a car accident, according to the BBC.

According to a Unilad report, citing a police investigator for the Brandenburg police, Stoykov was attacked last Friday, Dec. 8, after prisoners rushed into his cell after a guard opened his door. He was on a couch at the time and was beaten by prisoners before they fled the scene.

“He screamed so loud in fear and pain that the guard even heard him through the closed door and immediately ran back,” the police investigator said.

The guard then hurried to sound the alarm. Inmates were then locked up in their cells.

“Out of security grounds, he will be transferred to another prison. In Berlin’s prisons he is not safe,” the investigator said.

The Unilad report has not been confirmed in other media reports.
