A man is wanted for throwing a beer keg through the window of a Washington, D.C. bakery.

The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department issued a notice seeking help in identifying the suspect, who threw the keg through the window of Georgetown Cupcake, a nationally-renowned cupcake shop in the neighborhood. One of the shop's owners said an employee was working inside at the time and was terrified by the vandalism.

According to MPDC, the incident occurred at around midnight Monday morning. Georgetown Cupcake posted surveillance footage of the incident on their Instagram page Monday. In the footage, the man can be seen carrying the keg down a sidewalk nearby. The footage then cuts to an inside shot in which the suspect can be seen lifting the keg to his shoulder and attempting to throw it. He loses control of the keg, then lifts it again over his head and throws it into the window, where it shatters the glass and knocks over a shelf.
Shop owners Katherine Kallinis Berman and Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne posted a picture of the aftermath on their pages and the shop's page.

"It’s honestly hard to put into words how upsetting this is," the two wrote. "Someone threw a keg through the window of our business - people were inside and scared. That level of disregard for others is shocking. This isn’t just property damage; it’s reckless, dangerous, and completely unacceptable behavior that could have seriously hurt someone. To whoever is responsible: actions like this don’t go unnoticed. There are cameras, there are witnesses, and there will be consequences. You will be held accountable. If anyone has information, speak up. This kind of behavior has no place in our community."

The shop also posted footage of the suspect walking away from the scene. They urged anyone with tips to reach out to MPDC Detective Ricardo Leiva.
Speaking to People Magazine, LaMontagne said that staff are in the shop almost 24/7, including nighttime cleaning crews and bakers who come in to do prep work overnight. One of the bakers called her after it happened, which is how she became aware of it.

“I was shocked,” LaMontagne told the outlet. “[We've] been in business now for over 18 years in Georgetown. We've seen a lot, but we've never seen vandalism of this magnitude.”

She said staff worked overnight to board up the shattered window so that the shop could be open for business Monday morning. She said the store is working with police.

“I do hope that we find this person because this is a serious thing,” LaMontagne said. “I mean, drunken college behavior is one thing, but someone could have gotten very, very seriously hurt here.”

However, she was also grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and said she is most concerned with pressing forward.

Berman and LaMontagne opened Georgetown Cupcake in 2008. The store has been featured in the reality TV shows "DC Cupcakes" and "Cupcake Cam LIVE"; they have also published two bestselling cookbooks. The store has been featured in over a dozen media outlets, and ships its products nationwide.
