President-elect Donald Trump named Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as the next Surgeon General of the United States on Friday evening.

In his statement, Trump praised Nesheiwat’s “unwavering commitment to saving and treating thousands of American lives.”

“Dr. Nesheiwat will play a pivotal role in MAKING AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN!” Trump wrote.

Nesheiwat is a double board-certified medical doctor known for her work in preventive medicine, public health, and disaster relief. She is a contributor on Fox News and has served as the medical director of CityMD, the largest urgent care company servicing metro New York.

Nesheiwat provided medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic, assisted victims of Hurricane Katrina and the Joplin tornadoes, and worked with the disaster relief organization Samaritan’s Purse to deliver aid in Morocco, Haiti, and Poland, according to Trump.

“Dr. Nesheiwat is a fierce advocate and strong communicator for preventive medicine and public health,” Trump said in a statement. “She is committed to ensuring that Americans have access to affordable, quality healthcare, and believes in empowering individuals to take charge of their health to live longer, healthier lives.”

As Surgeon General, Nesheiwat will serve as the Nation’s Doctor, providing Americans with the best scientific information on how to improve their health and reduce the risk of illness and injury.

The position also includes overseeing the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, a team of over 6,000 uniformed officers who are public health professionals dedicated to protecting and advancing the health of the nation.
