Recently, the Epoch Buy team went to the Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California. It’s the biggest event of its kind out west! You definitely need at least 3 full days to see everything there—that’s how massive it is.

Mostly, it’s specialty health food and supplements, with a few personal care and cleaning product vendors, plus some suppliers sprinkled throughout. Most people there are distributors, influencers, or exhibitors.

There are many large, established brands, but also tons of small and emerging brands to discover. Even though I think society is becoming more health-conscious in general, here are the food trends I noticed:
  • Beef tallow
  • Gut health focus
  • Less fake meats than expected
  • Protein! Protein! Protein!
  • Mushrooms
  • Drink your collagen
A question I have is whether all these items are really “healthy” or necessary. I guess there’s nothing wrong with wanting or needing supplements, but some feel like gimmicks following trends. At the end of the day, good health starts with eating a variety of whole, unprocessed, natural foods, and this event inspired me to eat better.

Regardless, as we ate and drank our way through the seemingly endless rabbit hole of samples, we noticed some great things our readers might like. So, after hitting over 10,000 steps a day at the expo, here’s what I found, along with favorites from the Epoch Buy team.

GuruNanda 6-in-1 Pre-Pasted Disposable Toothbrush

GuruNanda 6-in-1 Pre-Pasted Disposable Toothbrush I tried this and love it—I’ll definitely be buying more. The soft bristles feel great, and the toothpaste is evenly pre-applied along the brush head (not just a small blob at the base like others). The built-in floss, toothpick, and tongue cleaner make it perfect for travel. I did wish there was a bit more toothpaste, but that’s easy to add.

Viori Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set

Viori Shampoo and Conditioner Bar Set I tried Viori’s shampoo and conditioner bars, and loved how thoughtful the brand is. Two River Lion’s Mane Mushroom Broth

Two River Lion’s Mane Mushroom Broth I’m not a huge mushroom fan but this broth was seriously good. Made with organic mushrooms from a farm in New Jersey, it has a really hearty, savory flavor. It would make an amazing base for a vegan ramen, but honestly I’d drink it on its own too.
