Nicholas Tucci, known for starring in the film “You’re Next,” has died after a “private” illness, his family announced over the weekend.

His father confirmed that Tucci, who was 38, died at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. The cause of death wasn’t revealed.

“Nick chose to keep his illness private so that he could continue to pursue his professional and artistic dreams for as long as possible,” his father, Alexander, wrote on Facebook. “In the last year, he was able to audition, go on location, and continue the work he loved so much.”

Alexander Tucci continued, “To those of you in the film, television, and theater communities…thank you for guiding, encouraging, and supporting Nick. To those of you who enjoyed Nick’s work on the screen and stage…thank you for recognizing his talent and appreciating his efforts. To all…thank you for your gift of friendship to my son.”

He appeared in numerous roles in television and movies, including FX’s “Pose,” Showtime’s “Homeland,” and Netflix’s “Daredevil.”

Barbara Crampton, who plays Leanna Love on “The Young and the Restless,” wrote on Facebook: “As a kind person and a passionate creator you will be missed,” before offering “condolences to his family and closest friends and us, who enjoyed his sweet company when we were lucky enough to spend time and work with him.”

Keith Calder, a movie producer, added he was honored to have worked with the actor.

“I was lucky enough to work with Nick on three movies (Undocumented, You’re Next, and Faults) and he was one of my favorite actors to work with,” Calder wrote on Twitter. “I’m honored to have been able to call him a friend and a colleague.”
