Two young girls were found alive inside a Pennsylvania home on Aug. 3 along with the bodies of two adults believed to have been dead for several days, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 to a residence on Franklin Avenue in Wilkinsburg, a borough just outside of Pittsburgh, after receiving a report that two people had died in the home, a spokesperson for the Allegheny County Police Department told NTD via email.
After entering the residence, the officers located the two deceased adults—a man and a woman—along with the two children, ages three and one. The children were transported to an area hospital for evaluation and were subsequently released to the Allegeny County’s Office of Children, Youth and Families.
Officials have not yet released the names of the adults. However, multiple media reports have identified the deceased as Lamara Baldwin, 31, and Lamont Dunlap, 42.
The Allegheny County Police spokesperson told NTD that a preliminary investigation indicated the two adults were last seen on July 31 and that evidence at the scene suggested they had been dead since then, meaning the children may have been alone inside the residence for several days before they were found.
Authorities did not disclose what initially prompted the call to the residence. The police spokesperson said there were no obvious signs of trauma to either adult, although the cause and manner of death remain to be determined by the local medical examiner's office.
Some residents who live in the area said they were left with unanswered questions following the discovery.
"I'm still just kind of processing and in shock because those, those are our neighbors ... We would see them regularly. You know, friendly folks," one neighbor, Nicole Mickens, told Action News 4.
"I'm very concerned about the children, the state of the children," Mickens added. "How are they, you know, what's going on with them? How did that many days go by without anything being noticed?"
John Sloan, another resident who lives nearby, expressed similar concerns while speaking with KDKA-TV on Tuesday.
