An armed carjacker was shot in a Walmart parking lot in Washington state after armed civilians took action.

Detectives are investigating multiple crime scenes. The suspect was shot and killed after he attempted to commit his final carjacking. He was approached by two armed civilians and shot by one of them, according to a news release from the Tumwater Police Department.

Police first got a call about a car driving in the wrong direction, a suspected DUI. They were then informed of a carjacking where the suspect may have fired shots. They arrived at the scene to find a 16-year-old girl with injuries from the carjacking. They located her vehicle a short time later, according to the news release.

Then police then received a call about shots fired at a local Walmart, either in or around the store. The police confirmed that the earlier carjacking suspect entered Walmart and fired at a display case, according to the news release.

“I was in the dairy section. Heard about 5 or 6 pops. Ran out a side emergency exit and attempted to run to my car in the parking lot but heard 4 more pops in the lot. Caught a quick glimpse of a male with what appeared to be a handgun. Ducked under some cars and ran to Costco,” said Darren Gossler, via Twitter.
“I heard two bangs. It sounded like gunshots to me,” witness Robert Berwick said, via Kiro 7. "I looked down the aisle and saw a person running.”

The suspect then attempted another carjacking and shot the occupant of a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot. The victim was airlifted to a medical center in Seattle, according to the news release.

"I looked over and saw hundreds of people running out. ... Just a flood of people and everyone was screaming and frantic. ... When we got about to the door, I heard someone say, 'Gun. Shooter.' And I knew something was serious," said a witness, via Kiro 7.

Armed civilians pursued and fatally shot the carjacker after he attempted the second carjacking, according to the news release.

Bystander Brian Adams took cover behind a vehicle near where the suspect was shot. He considers the civilian who killed the carjacker a hero.

“This guy could have taken out more people, wounded or killed,” said witness Brian Adams, via The Seattle Times.
