Deadly Chain-Reaction Crash Closes I-10 in Phoenix

A multicar collision on Interstate 10 in Arizona left one person dead and three others injured.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety told AZFamily that the accident began with a minor fender bender, which escalated.

Two cars collided on I-10 eastbound near 51st Avenue just after 4 a.m. on June 18. No one was injured, Trooper Kameron Lee told KTAR. The drivers got out to exchange information.

Two more cars stopped behind the wrecked vehicles, unable to pass safely.

A box truck about 30 feet long slammed into the last of these two cars, starting a chain reaction.

The eastbound side of the highway was at the 67th Avenue exit until about 8 a.m.
