(Miami Police)

Rey Maualuga, who played for the Miami Dolphins was arrested last week on battery charges, according to reports.

The team waived him, according to NFL.com, after he was arrested in Miami last Friday. The Dolphins later confirmed the transaction to get rid of him.

But this week, more details on his arrest were released.

Maualuga, 30, was at a club at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. “He allegedly wouldn’t pay $40 he owed for a tab. When asked again to pay, he allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat, source says,” according to reporter Andy Slater.

The Dolphins signed him to a one-year deal in August. He had 23 tackles for the Dolphins this season in six games.

It was unclear if Maualuga had an attorney at the time, AP reported.
