Ford Motor Co. is recalling nearly 1.5 million vehicles in the United States because of a defect that can cause rear-view camera images to fail, according to a report released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall covers various 2015–2019 model year Lincoln MKC, Lincoln Navigator, Mustang, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, Expedition, Edge, Transit, Transit Connect, Econoline, and Ranger vehicles because rearview cameras can display inverted, distorted, or blank images, Ford said in a filing with the NHTSA.

Ford began investigating possible rear-view camera failures in certain 2015–2019 vehicles after multiple concerns were reported to the company and the NHTSA. Complaints began coming in from vehicle owners of 2015–2018 Lincoln MKC models.

The company traced the problem to an unauthorized change made by Magna's sub-supplier to the printed circuit board header tooling, which resulted in lower terminal contact forces and, over time, fretting corrosion on the terminal header.

By mid-August 2025, Ford reported 44,123 warranty claims worldwide, representing a failure rate of 27 per 1,000 vehicles. An additional 195 owner complaints were also made. Ford noted that 18 accidents were linked to the issue, but no injuries had been reported.

According to the recall report, owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have the rear view camera inspected and replaced. "There will be no charge for this service," it states.

The recall refers to the following models:
  • Lincoln MKC (2015–2019)
  • Lincoln Navigator (2015–2017)
  • Ford Ranger (2019)
  • Ford Edge (2015–2018)
  • Ford Econoline (2015–2019)
  • Ford Mustang (2015–2019)
  • Ford Expedition (2015–2017)
  • Ford F-350 Super Duty (2015–2019)
  • Ford Transit (2016–2019)
  • Ford F-550 Super Duty (2016–2019)
  • Ford F-250 Super Duty (2015–2019)
  • Ford Transit Connect (2015–2018)
  • Ford F-450 Super Duty (2015–2019)
Ford notified dealers of the recall on Sept. 8 and plans to begin notifying affected owners by mail between Sept. 22 and Sept. 28. The NHTSA recall number is 25V572 and the manufacturer recall number is 25S89.
In May, Ford had a similar recall of more than a million vehicles due to a software issue in the Accessory Protocol Interface Module. This also caused rear-view camera images to freeze, delay, or fail to display, increasing the risk of a crash. Affected models are the 2021–2025 editions of the Bronco, F-150, Edge, Escape, Corsair, Expedition, Transit, Mach-E, Lincoln Nautilus, Ranger, Mustang, and Navigator. That NHTSA recall number is 25V270.
Ford agreed to a $165 million civil penalty in November after an NHTSA investigation found the automaker failed to recall vehicles with defective rearview cameras in a timely manner.
