“John Wick: Chapter 4” actor Bill Skarsgard has been fined nearly $4,000 after he was arrested for drug possession at an airport in the capital of Sweden.

According to TMZ, authorities took the 33-year-old Swedish native into custody in October for possessing 2.43 grams of cannabis at Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport.

On Feb. 14, Mr. Skarsgard entered a guilty plea to the allegations and submitted paperwork to the court where he was being tried.

He was fined a total of 40,000 Swedish krona—or about $3,825—but will escape facing jail time, parole, or probation in connection with the guilty plea, the tabloid reported.

The actor has yet to publicly address the legal situation.

In the fourth installment of the “John Wick” franchise, Mr. Skarsgard portrayed Marquis Vincent da Gramont, the primary antagonist and powerful leader of the High Table—a council of crime lords that provides oversight to the world’s most powerful criminal organizations.

Other notable projects Mr. Skarsgård worked on include “It,” “Barbarian,” “Hemlock Grove,” and “Castle Rock.” He also appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films “Eternals” and “Deadpool 2.”

Cannabis in Sweden

Although cannabis is the most commonly used illicit substance in Sweden, it’s less commonly used among the Nordic country’s population compared to many other European countries, according to the Nordic Alcohol and Drug Policy Network (NordAN).

The organization highlighted that cannabis users are largely concentrated among young Swedish adults, in particular, those aged 15 to 24 years old. It also noted that cannabis use is more common among males than females.

Both recreational and medical use of marijuana are illegal in Sweden, and the country’s cannabis law is divided into four main penalties—consumption, possession, manufacturing, and distribution.

NordAN said in a statement that as “individual substances are not regulated separately, penalties depend on such factors as the amount of possession of certain substances and their perceived dangerousness.”

According to the organization, a minor offense such as Mr. Skarsgard’s situation can be punished by either a fine or up to six months in prison. A particularly aggravated drug offense, meanwhile, can carry a minimum of six years and a maximum of 10 years of imprisonment.
