New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts brought its 2025 season to a close on May 11. This year, eight companies performed more than 760 shows in front of over a million audience members. The performances were highly acclaimed by Chinese theatergoers from all over the world, who said they felt proud and deeply touched.

“Very powerful and very moving,” said Chinese immigrant Mr. Zhang. “Shen Yun had a very unique perspective and the performance was fabulous, absolutely a top-notch presentation.”

“A masterpiece of ancient and modern times, the essence of traditional culture,” said Kuo Jia, a construction company owner.

“As a Chinese person, I am very proud of this performance! I am very proud to see Chinese classical dance and Chinese culture integrated into this performance,” said Chinese immigrant Ms. Zhao.

“I have found that overseas, foreigners appreciate Shen Yun very much, and the demand is very high. Whether it is big cities, like in Houston, or small towns, there is so much enthusiasm, and the response is still so overwhelming. I am really touched,” said C.K. Wu, a sales director.

“I have been hearing about Shen Yun for years with outstanding reviews that brought me here. It makes me so, so happy to watch such a rich [Chinese] culture. And [it] brings back all these memories. It’s just an outstanding performance. I really enjoyed it,” said Connie Kang, business owner.

“After watching, I felt especially inspired, an inspiration that touched my spirit and soul. I felt purified from the inside out,” said Mr. Qin, a student.

Audience members commended Shen Yun’s mission to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture from before Communism. They shared the messages of positive energy, hope, and goodness that they saw come out of the performance.

“The performance by Shen Yun today is not simply a cultural performance,” said jurist Yuan Hongbing. “It is part of a great epic in the Chinese people’s pursuit of the revival of Chinese civilization.”

“This performance spans from ancient to modern China, portraying a historical journey with a comprehensive interpretation of China’s development. It also incorporates traditional cultures from various ethnic groups in China. For example, Tibetan and Yi dances. I think it’s wonderful how all these elements are blended together. It’s very inclusive,” said Ms. Zhao.

“I think that through such a performance, we can retrieve some of the traditions of the Chinese nation and bring out some of the lost things in a more comprehensive way. So I think it is quite mind-blowing,” said Muzi Zhao, a teacher.

“It presented traditional Chinese arts through storytelling and mythological elements, using artistic performance to bring them to life on stage and share them with us. I saw so many things that were full of elegance,” said Chinese Canadian Mr. Xu.

“I think the performance touched my heart deeply, and it is a chance for me to communicate with God more closely. It makes us all realize that there are Gods in this world, and no matter what your cultural background is, we all need to cultivate our lives in awe of God,” said Han Ma, a teacher.

“I felt this stage very bright, radiating light everywhere. It brings light to the world. I think we are living in a rather dark era now. Everyone carries a kind of gloom inside and outside. I believe Shen Yun can disperse this gloom and bring light both to our hearts and outwardly,” said Mr. Qin.

“I think this performance may be trying to tell us that you can only get a good script if you are a good person. As the saying goes, good stories only favor good people. Maybe these things are given to us as a favor from God,” said Ms. Muzi Zhao.

Shen Yun also put a spotlight on the modern-day persecution of faith and tradition carried out by the Chinese Communist Party since taking power in 1949. Chinese audience members expressed their support and good wishes to the group.

“The tragedies and awful situations in China today are truly directly related to the absence of faith. Using performances like this to call people back to faith, to bring more inner restraint, and allowing more beautiful, kind, and genuine things to return, I think this is especially meaningful,” said Mr. Xu.

“Shen Yun portrays the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party and the reaction of Falun Gong practitioners to such persecution,” said C.K. Wu. “This immediately reminds me of people like Gandhi and Nelson Mandela of South Africa. Although they were persecuted, they did not advocate answering violence with violence. We are only exposing the atrocities committed by the Chinese Communist regime.”

“What’s even more striking is how real-life issues are also portrayed through this artistic form,” said Mr. Xu. “The combination of traditional artistry with modern societal themes creates a powerful and moving impact. Paired with the beautiful dance, Shen Yun is like a stroke of divine inspiration, full of endless charm.”

“In today’s performance, I saw that Falun Gong teaches the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I strongly agree with these values. This has also refreshed and broadened my understanding,” said Ms. Zhao.

“With each performer, I felt that they were not just acting. They were showing their true selves to the audience, revealing their authenticity to us. What we saw in them was not like a typical performance, or like something from Hollywood. What we saw was genuine, sincere, and spontaneous. This kind of emotional impact is truly rare,” said Mr. Qin.

“The Chinese Communist Party uses its long-standing infiltration of Western media and exploits Western judicial systems to launch a propaganda and legal war against Falun Gong. They aim to extend their horrific persecution of Falun Gong overseas. When I watched the Shen Yun performers just now, I felt that they are messengers of beauty, bringing the inspiration of beauty to this chaotic world. The CCP tyranny seeks to persecute exactly these messengers of beauty. But I believe that those whose souls are rooted in beauty and those pure lives who pursue beauty, are surely blessed by heaven; whereas the evil forces that betray and destroy beauty will undoubtedly be punished by divine justice,” said Yuan Hongbing.

“Falun Gong and Shen Yun Performing Arts are really irreplaceable in promoting Chinese culture to the world and exposing the truth about the Chinese Communist Party. You are our great, great hope. Go for it,” said Mr. Zhang.

“Chinese traditional culture is rooted in divinely inspired culture. This performance clearly expresses this divine cultural heritage, which makes it very precious. If this performance could be staged in mainland China, I believe millions upon millions of Chinese people would truly enjoy it. So, I look forward to that day,” said Kuo Jia.
