Adele and her husband, Simon Konecki, have made the decision to split up.

Despite their decision to end their marriage, the couple agreed that both of them would share taking care of their child, according to an email statement given to the Associated Press.

“Adele and her partner have separated,” the statement read. “They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

The former couple had been together for more than seven years. The singer first met Konecki in 2011, and then in January 2012, the singer revealed in a blog post that has since been deleted that the two were in a relationship, PEOPLE reported.

The former couple then welcomed their son, Angelo, on Oct. 19, 2012. Adele chose to be very private about her life with her partner and child, and managed to not reveal news of their son until later on.

During those seven years, Adele shared to PEOPLE that Konecki was very supportive, and despite not being too into her music generally, he cared about her. However, she did say that Konecki did enjoy her most recent album, “25.”

“He cares about me more than anything but he doesn’t care about the style of music that I make and stuff like that,” Adele said. “He just loves it.”

A source told PEOPLE that the relationship Adele has with Konecki mostly worked because the couple was on the same page when it came to their son, Angelo.

“Their priority is their son, and Adele loves being a mother,” the source said. “Angelo is a very happy little boy.”

Their History Together

Adele refused to share about her private life for a long time after having her first child in 2012, and only opened up back in 2015 on “60 Minutes Australia” where she said, “It’s only because of [Konecki] and because of our kid and stuff that I’m all right.”

During her Grammy acceptance speech, she thanked them, saying that it was her boyfriend Konecki and their son who convinced her to come to the Grammy’s night. Adele had won the Best Original Song for the movie “Skyfall” at Golden Globes that night.

“Honestly I came for a night out with my friend Ayda, and we’re new mums,” Adele said, “I was not expecting this. Thank you so much.”

She admitted that her decision to participate in recording the song “Skyfall,”—despite it being a success—did not come easy for her.

“It is a huge responsibility and a lot of pressure. That movie was huge,” she told PEOPLE. “And I was pregnant. I had my child about two weeks before the film came out. So it was bad timing.”

During Vanity Fair interview back in 2016, Adele stepped out of her reluctance and opened up about her relationships and revealed that she prioritized her family over any tour she did.

“All of my relationships are more important to me than any tour I’ll ever do,” Adele said. “If my relationship with Simon or my relationship with Angelo started to flounder a bit now, I would pull out of my tour.”

She continued by saying that her relationship with Konecki was the most serious she had ever been in. According to Adele, Konecki didn’t feel that his relationship with Adele would suffer because of her fame. She praised him for that, calling him perfect.

Back in January 2017, there were rumors circulating about Adele’s marriage with Konecki after she was photographed with a ring on her finger. Adele confirmed the news in March of the same year by announcing her engagement during a concert in Brisbane.

“I was trying to remember how it was I felt at the beginning of the relationship that inspired that record,” she said. “Because as bad as a breakup can be and as bitter and horrible and messy as it can be, that feeling when you first fall for someone is the best feeling on earth, and I am addicted to that feeling. Obviously, I can’t go through with those feelings because I’m married now.”
