If bipolar disorder’s origin lies in nerve cells and genes, what can be done to prevent it taking hold?

Over the decades, many a scientist has claimed insight into the cause of bipolar disorder, which marked by drastic mood shifts between mania and depression affects an estimated 7.2 million Americans each year. However, few could match William Walsh PhD’s track record in identifying biochemical causes of mental illness and effectively countering them.

So, when Walsh says he’s discovered the cause of bipolar as encapsulated in his new book – “The Essence of Bipolar Disorder,” the neuroscience community is almost certain to stand up and take notice.

Back in 1998, the studio audience of “Leeza” with Leeza Gibbons was transfixed by the dramatic change in behaviorally-disordered, 13-year-old, Chris who had proudly admitted to plotting the murder of his principal and forcing another child’s head down the toilet just the before. Chris had acceded then to being tested and treated for biochemical imbalance by Walsh’s institute.

The far gentler and kinder Chris that emerged after treatment has to be<a href="https://youtu.be/Noaajdi3qOs?si=3FeLuZ-rHS1nHo5i&t=1441"> seen to be believed</a>. Needless to say, the result put to rest any doubt that biochemical imbalance was the source of the boy’s antisocial tendencies.

Alongside his achievements in behavioral disorder, Walsh has also pioneered treatments for autism, ADHD, clinical depression, and other conditions based on addressing the biochemical imbalances involved. More than a thousand physicians and medical practitioners have been trained in his method.

Now, after eight years of research into the genetic and nerve cell origins of bipolar disorder, he joins “Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon” to share his discoveries.

“Number one, we found the cause of bipolar disorder – the genetic predispositions,” says Walsh.

“And this led directly to an explanation for why bipolar patients cycle between mania and depression,” he adds.

Amid the intricate workings of the brain’s neurotransmitters and within the genes carrying the blueprints of our beings, Walsh identifies the likely flaws driving the chemical and mental imbalance of bipolar.

From this standpoint, we examine what can be done to detect, prevent, and concretely stem progression of the disorder – on “Vital Signs.”
