“I was impressed not only by the beauty, by the story it tells, by the tradition it brings, but by the message of compassion, the search for truth and, even more importantly, the importance of making this a reality in the context we live in,” Mr. Marcial said.
Celso Coppio, an artist, said, “I knew it would be a great performance but I did not imagine it would be this grand. I was truly very impressed. Very beautiful.”
“As a professional in the music field, I was enchanted by the overall quality of the show, especially with the live orchestra and the blending of the Western sound of the instruments with instruments from Eastern culture as well,” Amanda Cantador Coimbra, a music school owner, said. “And certainly, the power of art in preserving culture, and also how it connects the past and the present.”
In addition to ancient myths and legends from “China before communism,” Shen Yun also tells modern-day stories of courage in the face of the Chinese regime’s persecution of faith, one of the reasons Shen Yun cannot perform in China today.
Council Member Marcial said, “Seeing this performance shows that even when we are at a more advanced stage of repression, of censorship as is the case in communist China, truth can still prosper—the message of freedom can still prosper.”
“I notice this aspect of color synchronicity, color transparency, and everything. Everything was done down to the smallest details. I found it spectacular,” Mr. Coppio said. “Perhaps what caught my attention most was the scenery, because the background is a cinematic screen, and that whole movement is part of the performance. All of that left me fascinated.”
Council Member Marcial said, “I believe my wife and I are both enchanted with the show, with the company. So thank you very much for the experience, and continue your work, because it inspires.”
